Omega Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker Solar Impulse Limited Edition

The Omega Speedmaster Professional has an incredible history starting with automotive racing moving into flight and eventually to NASA and the U.S. Space Programs as well as international space agencies. The Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse celebrates Omega‘s unique alliance with the Solar Impulse project, whose team succeeded in their determined aim to circle the earth in an airplane powered by the sun. Solar Impulse is a Swiss long-range experimental solar-powered aircraft project, and also the name of the project’s two operational aircraft. The privately financed project is led by Swiss engineer and businessman André Borschberg and Swiss psychiatrist and balloonist Bertrand Piccard, who co-piloted Breitling Orbiter 3, the first balloon to circle the world non-stop. Pretty cool right! The  Solar Impulse project started when Solar impulse initiator, chairman, and pilot Bertrand Piccard, presented an idea of a solar-powered airplane to the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne with a goal to make the first circumnavigation of the Earth by a piloted fixed-wing aircraft using only solar power with an underlying goal to bring attention to clean technologies. On July 25th, 2016 the solar impulse project completed its goal of circling the earth in an airplane powered by the sun placing it into the history Books.

The Skywalker X-33 Speedmaster is powered by the quartz Chronograph movement, caliber 5619. The grade 2 titanium outer caseback is stamped with the Solar Impulse “Around the World” patch and engraved with the words “TESTED AND QUALIFIED BY ESA” (the European Space Agency). The lightweight grade 2 titanium 45 mm case is complete with a ceramic bezel with a chromium nitride scale whose minute track scale is coated in white Super-LumiNova, as are the skeletonized Black and white hour and minute hands. The central second’s hand is distinguished by its green and black color combination
