The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. The DateJust would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection.
This specific 1973 Datejust Ref. 1603 retains its original grey “Pie Pan” Sigma dial which is sought after among collectors. A Sigma dial is a Rolex dial named for the letters printed at the bottom of the dial at the 6 o’clock position. Most Rolex dials are commonly marked with “T Swiss T,” under the 6 o’clock marker, however, a Sigma dial is marked “σ T SWISS T σ.” This signifies the use of Gold components within the dial.
This piece would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection. We love the early Rolex Datejust for its simplicity and its classic sophistication.
